The goal of the Food and Nutrition Services department is to provide our students with excellent meals that are locally grown, financially responsible and help to foster learning by keeping our students full and focused all day.
Mission / Vision
The IISD Food & Nutrition Services Department shall be the premier provider to students and other customers of nutritionally-complete, low-cost, delicious meals.
The IISD Food & Nutrition Services Department, in partnership with the district and the greater school community, resolves to meet the nutritional and health needs of students, both through the provision of healthy, low-cost meals and through the provision of nutrition education.
Our three-part goals statement is as follows:
- to support education,
- to provide good nutrition, and
- to deliver consistently excellent service.
In order to accomplish our goals, we will undertake the following:
- Put children first, by continuing to build partnerships and relationships with other district departments, schools, and divisions, to pool our combined resources for the betterment of our students and of our district as a whole
- Increase meal participation in multiple programs, including but not limited to the School Breakfast Program, the National School Lunch Program, the After School Care Program, the Summer Feeding Program, etc.
- Increase the health of our school meals, ala carte products, and beverages, while maintaining our status as a low-cost leader in meal prices in the greater D/FW area
- Leverage technology in all areas of operations, including but not limited to food service software, new equipment, the concept of the “digital” kitchen, food safety initiatives, etc., to realize maximum efficiencies
- Invest in our employees and in our facilities/equipment, to provide for the most efficient and effective service possible, while maintaining the highest standards of excellence in service, food quality and safety, and outstanding dining and educational experiences, for our many customers and students
- Continue moving towards making the cafeteria/kitchen become a learning area of the school environment, whereby students can apply their classroom instruction in making healthy meal choices for breakfast, lunch, etc.
- Maintain a conservative and cost-effective operating system, allowing for continued investment of program resources into maximizing efficiencies of operations
