Trent Nickerson, Principal
Mr. Nickerson is no stranger to Irving ISD as he attended A.S. Johnston elementary, Sam Houston Middle School, and is a graduate of MacArthur High school.
Prior to becoming Principal of Lorenzo de Zavala Middle School, Mr. Nickerson served most recently as Assistant Principal at Nimitz High School. He also served as an Assistant Principal at de Zavala Middle School and as Administrative Liaison at Bowie Middle School. He served in an instructional capacity as an AVID teacher and History teacher. He was Varsity Football Coordinator at MacArthur High School.
Mr. Nickerson's philosophy of education is centered on successful collaboration between administrators, teachers, parents, and community members--equipping students with the necessary tools to prepare them to be career and college ready.
Mr. Nickerson received his bachelor’s degree in History from Texas Tech University and his Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University.
Tiffany Williams, Assistant Principal
Tiffany Williams is excited to join the de Zavala team this school year. She graduated from Harding University with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and a master's degree in Science Education. She completed her certificate in Educational Leadership through Lamar University.
Mrs. Williams taught two years at the university level teaching Kinesiology courses and coaching volleyball, five years as a varsity volleyball coach and a high school special education teacher, and four years teaching science in middle school. She excited about being apart of the DZ family!
Jaime Mendoza, Assistant Principal
Mr. Mendoza is now entering his 9th year with Irving ISD. Mr. Mendoza was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico and relocated to Irving, Texas with his family at the age of 6. Mr. Mendoza wanted to give back to where it all started, he wanted to thank all the teachers who helped him learn the English language and what better way than to serve in the district where it all started.
Mr. Mendoza attended John Haley Elementary School, Lee Britain Elementary School, Bowie Middle School and graduated from Nimitz High School.
Mr. Mendoza served most recently as an Assistant Principal at Brandenburg Elementary School for three years.
Mr. Mendoza earned a Master of Education in leadership and policy studies from the University of Arlington at Texas, where he also earned his undergraduate degree.
Carlos Ramirez, Administrative Liaison
Carlos Ramirez Moye is entering his sixteenth year in education and is thrilled to begin his journey at de Zavala Middle School. He brings with him 10 years of experience in the classroom, 5 years of specialized academic instruction and 1 year of high school guitar instruction. He is a father of a dancer, 11 yr old, Carlos Eduardo Ramírez-Holguín, and a warrior, 8 yr old, Emma Carolina Ramirez-Holguín. His wife is a language acquisition specialist for Coppell ISD. Mr. Ramirez graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor and a Master’s degree in Guitar Performance. He received his Principal Certification from Lamar University.
