     A recent Gallup Student Poll showed that Irving ISD had a higher rate of students planning on opening their own business compared to the U.S. overall.

    The Irving Develops Entrepreneurial Achievers (IDEA) program is an 18-week program is designed to help teams of elementary students navigate through the process of becoming entrepreneurs.

    At each district elementary school, 5th graders have an opportunity to explore and their interests in starting a business and gain experience in collaboration, communication, creativity and team work.

Mentor a Future Entrepreneur Today!

  • Irving ISD is currently seeking mentors from the local business community to guide students through project-based activities as outlined in the IDEA curriculum. Areas of need include mentors to volunteer one hour weekly over the course of seven weeks and companies to adopt schools by providing off-site work space or resources.  For more information about the program contact Dr. Laina McDonald.

  • What is the time commitment of the IDEA program?

    The program runs from September to November. Mentors will be asked to commit 1 hour per week for 7 weeks.


    Do I need a background check to be a mentor in the IDEA program?

    Yes, you will apply as a mentor through the district's Raptor system.


    Can I refer a colleague to be a mentor in the IDEA program?

    Yes, please tell your friends and colleagues to visit www.irvingisd.net/IDEA, to begin the process of being an IDEA mentor.


    Will I be trained as a mentor in the IDEA program?

    Yes, you will have a 30 minute oreintation session.  We have flexible orientation opportuntities.
